TSOUTSOUROS

An area with elements from many different cultures

This coastal seaside area is about 63km from beautiful Heraklion, and has elements from many cultures which makes it exceptionally interesting to explore. It has relics from prehistoric times - with the hippopotamus bones in the Kerkelos cave, the Minoan period - with the harbour of the powerful city of ancient Inatos, Byzantine times and, much later, from the resistance against the Germans in the Second World War.

If you are in the area do not miss out on the opportunity to visit the famous cave of Eilitheyia, the Ancient Greek goddess of, which is north of the village. Here, a few years ago, archaeologists found valuable relics and samples of Linear A which were of interest throughout the world.
Use the San Georgio Hotel as a base to discover the great historical wealth and the rich natural beauty of Tsoutsouros.
